Blue Koi Noodles & Dumplings: Reviews & Ratings
Absolutely amazing spicy chili wontons for a starter and then as a special (not on the menu) tried these spicy crispy buns with chicken. I hope these make it on the full menu permanently. If not, I'm just gonna keep asking for them everytime I go! So delicious.
The firebird chicken with thick homemade noodles was delicious and the chicken was very tender. They even split the dish for us. Would order again. The combination dumplings (pan fried) had an odd flavor but the sauce was good. Next time, I will try the shrimp only dumplings. Nice location, excellent staff.
Probably my favorite restaurant EVER. I come here whenever possible - especially for their spicy chili pepper wontons We had the most delicious feast here recently. Highlights included - spicy chicken buns (a special), fire bird chicken (), and any dumplings. We also got the iced lychee and mango drinks! Cannot say enough great things about this restaurant, their quality of food, their service, and how fast the food comes out for how busy they are. Definitely make reservations for a weekend night. Will be coming here for years to come and taking all my friends!
Great Cantonese style Chinese food with lots of veg options on the menu. I definitely recommend the Ants on a Tree noodle dish, and the Chinese Curry as main dishes. The Vegan Delights soup is also pretty good. The appetizers are really good too - Eggplant Pockets are great to share, the Tofu and Awesome Sauce is delicious, the Lettuce Wraps and Tempura are also great. The dumplings are also good, if not the most unique thing on the menu. They also have bubble teas, a couple flavors can be made without dairy. I very much miss their original 39th Street location, I think it was the better more central location with far more character and I'm sad that they chose to close it instead of the expansion location. The service is still good and reasonably friendly, although they have gotten a little more bureaucratic and a little less friendly about how they handle guests. They have always been slightly on the expensive side, but the quality has also always been very good. A favorite restaurant in the area.
Nice place for a semi-upscale East Asian cuisine that's still casual enough to bring the kids. Great noodles and dumplings, fun cocktails, top-notch service. The staff were really kind and personable, and they checked on our group regularly. The menu is modest in size but diverse in its offerings. Portions were generous enough that most of us boxed leftovers. We enjoyed a nice family meal in the main dining room, and I would love to come back for lunch or dinner on the patio.
Blue Koi was very delicious and freshly prepared. I haven’t been in about 15 years and it did not disappoint! Our server was very nice, accommodating, and prompt. We had Crispy Tofu, Eggplant Pockets, pan Fried chicken Dumplings, Chinese curry chicken/ white rice, and Black Bean Chicken. All of it was delicious- so much food we had 5 to go containers! Their Everything treasure Herbal Tea was so delicious, I bought a few packets to go! My sister loves their bubble tea and is more of a regular customer and now so am I.
Blue Koi in Overland Park delivers solid food in a very casual, laid back setting. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, making it an easy spot for a low key meal. I ordered the fire bird chicken entree, and the flavor was excellent with a nice level of heat and depth. However, the quality of the meat cuts could have been improved, which took away from what could have been a standout dish. Service was another area that could use improvement. While staff were polite, attentiveness was lacking at times, and we found ourselves waiting longer than expected for basic check ins for drink refills. Overall, Blue Koi still offers tasty dishes and a comfortable atmosphere, but improving service consistency and food quality would easily push this to a five star experience.
The Wontons That Reminds Me of Family Time in Taiwan Is it possible for a single bite of food to collapse time and space? I didn't think so until my chopsticks picked up that first Blue Koi wontons, and suddenly thirty years vanished. Those summers in Taiwan with my dad, who called Taipei home for over two decades, shaped my understanding of what real Chinese food should taste like. We'd spend afternoons hunting down the best wontons, savoring braised pork over rice, and sipping the original bubble tea (a Taiwanese invention from Taichung in the 1980s that changed beverage history forever.) We couldn't leave without trying Blue Koi legendary chili pepper wontons—the same ones that had Guy Fieri from Food Network practically speechless. These perfect parcels filled with shrimp, pork and chicken, topped with that distinctive chili sauce, delivered the authentic heat that connects directly to Taiwan's night markets. Though tempted by their Firebird chicken noodles, we chose the Chinese-style pot roast with their handmade noodles and Black Bean Chicken with brown rice. Each dish carried that elusive balance of flavors that most restaurants can't quite capture—the difference between food made for tourists versus food made for family. Their impressive selection of bubble teas and loose leaf teas completed the experience, offering that perfect sweet finish to a meal that felt like a reunion with my past. Insider tip: Their house-made noodles have that distinctive "Q" texture (the Taiwanese term for perfectly bouncy, springy, slippery, chewy) that's worth the visit alone. Additional dishes I recommend: China Moon, Duck Wrap, Fire Bird, Ants On A Tree, Braised Pork. In a city thousands of miles from Taiwan, Blue Koi manages to serve more than just food—they serve a connection to cherished memories and distant family. Who knew the taste of home could be found so far from where it began?
